PiggieWiggies Guinea Pig
                                 Sanctuary

Our aim

PiggieWiggies Guinea Pig Sanctuary’s aim is to rehabilitate and nurture guinea pigs, into healthy animals and to succeed in finding forever homes that they truly deserve. We are a small charity constitution.

Overview of the Sanctuary

Most of the guinea pigs that come into us are ‘in poor state’ due to neglect or over breeding.  After receiving the correct care and treatment as well as unlimited loving they become well-balanced, sociable, healthy guinea pigs.

The Commitment

Owning a guinea pig is a commitment and one that can last up to seven years and sometimes longer.  Your responsibility to this special guinea pig is his/her health and well-being.  This may include vet bills which can be expensive as well as the normal daily running costs of dry food, equipment that is appropriate for your piggy like hutches/cages and runs (see RSPCA leaflet), unlimited hay, and fruit and vegetables.

Things to bear in mind before adopting a guinea pig

* Guinea pigs are small and often cuddly and need to be handled correctly from an early age.

*  Guinea pigs are fairly simple to care for if all his/her needs are met.

*  Guinea pigs do not have regular vaccinations.

* Guinea pigs can easily become part of the family if kept inside or kept close to the house.

* Guinea pigs are very good pets however they should never be left with younger children and should never be the responsibility of any children under 18 years of age.

* Please be aware children do loss interest very easily so a responsible adult must understand they are in charge of these beautiful pets.  A lot of guinea pigs in rescues are due to children losing interest than any other reason. So please think before you re-home a piggy.  All a Guinea pig wants is a forever home that nurtures and loves them.

Do not adopt a guinea pig if you are going through a difficult time in your life i.e. relationship, financial or housing problems.

Do ensure you have the time.  Guinea pigs need care 7 days a week every week.

Do ensure you feed the correct diet.  An extensive food list is on our website www.piggiewiggies.co.uk it is there for you to use at anytime.
